Gift Box for the Season – DIY

Who doesn't love gifts?! It fills your heart with child-like joy each time you receive something, small or big, encased in glistening paper or a cute box! Here we will learn how to make a pillow gift box, which is perfect for presenting small gifts such as jewelry. It is easy to make, fun to create and will surely put a beaming smile of joy on the lucky person who receives it!

You need: an old CD; thick sheet of paper; pencil; scissors; eraser; felt, or any other thick and soft fabric; triangle; ribbon or string; decorations such as pom-poms etc.; empty pen (without refill).

To make:
1. Place the sheet of paper horizontally on a table and the CD on the top left corner.
2. Mark the centre of the CD with a pencil.
3. Remove the CD and place the triangle such that it passes through the point which is parallel to the horizontal edge of the paper. Draw a line on this. Repeat for the vertical edge.
4. Put the CD back in its place such that the point coincides with its centre and draw its periphery.
5. Now, use the CD to make semi-circles at the points where the circle and lines intersect. Repeat for 3 quarters.
6. In the last quarter, make a full circle.
7. Use the triangle to make lines inside the second circle, at the points where both the circles meet.
8. Now, draw semi-circles in all the quarters of this second circle.
9. Cut the two circles out of the sheet, and place the cut-out on the fabric.
10. Score the line with the empty pen so that grooves get formed.
11. Now, fold every side, and get it to look like a box.
12. Tie it up with the ribbon/coloured string and decorate with the pom-pom!

Make Charming Christmas Characters with Paper Plates

You will need: cotton balls; crayons in brown, peach and dark pink; 1 large red pom-pom with glitter; paper plates; scrapbook paper; black marker; brown pipe cleaners; large pom-poms or large sized cotton balls; 1 medium sized red pom-pom with glitters; 4-inch piece of ribbon; 1 large jingle bell; brown sheet of paper; small glittery pom-poms; white craft glue; tape; time for action!

Take the 3 paper plates and turn them upside down
Colour one of them brown and the centre of one with peach crayon. Leave the last one blank

For Rudolf
1. Cut out ears from brown sheet of paper and stick them to the underside of the plate which is coloured brown.
2. Stick the red glittery pom pom in the centre to make the nose.
3. Use the black marker to make the eyes and a wavy smile.
4. Cut out a collar shaped pattern from a red printed paper and attach to the underside of the plate to make the collared neck.
5. String a satin ribbon through the jingle bell and tie around this collar.
6. Use the brown pipe cleaners to make the horns.

For Santa Claus
1. Use a red coloured paper and cut out the pattern of a hat.
2. Stick this to the paper plate with the peach centre.
3. Now again use the black marker and make the eyes.
4. Stick a white pom pom to the end of the hat and the red one in the centre of the plate.
5. Put some glue in the place for the beard and hat.
6. Now put small balls of cotton to this glue.

For the Snowman
1. Cut the snowman's hat from a light blue paper.
2. Glue it at the top of the plain paper plate.
3. Cut a nose pattern from orange paper and stick it at the centre.
4. Use pink crayon for making rosy cheeks and a black marker for the eyes, eyebrows and smile.
5. Use glue to attach cotton balls for the brim of the hat.
6. Glue a pom-pom to the end of the hat.

This will be a super-fun activity for all ages. So get those plates out and enjoy!

Snow Inspired Nail Art Tutorial

The season is freezing and you are bedecked in the latest winter fashion from head to toe. As you remove your mittens to reach for that cup of coffee, make sure that your nails too are drenched in the height of fashion, with this trendy tutorial for nail art, which will be the highlight of the season!

You need:
– base coat and top coat;
– dark, medium and light blue nail polish;
– white crème polish;
– black dotting tool or toothpick;
– makeup sponge;
– nail art brush.

Get set!
1. Apply the base coat over your nails and then cover them with light blue nail polish.
2. Now, create a smooth gradient with the three shades of blue. The dark one should be near the cuticle and the lighter one on the nail edge.
3. Use the nail art brush, and paint the edges with white polish to create uneven-looking mounds of snow.
4. Take the dark polish and create a thin vertical line on each line, capped with an arrow shape. This is the starting point for placing trees on your nail art.
5. Add lines down the trunk to create a 'fir' tree effect. Make another tree in white on the other edge.
6. Now, use the toothpick and add white polish dots all over, to give the illusion of snowfall.
7. Finish off with the top coat.

The Guide to Choosing your Wedding Dress

Your wedding date is set, and all arrangements are on way. Yet, out of the innumerous tasks set out for your big day, the most that you worry about is your wedding dress! The mission to get yourself that perfect dream of a wedding gown can be an extremely arduous task, depending on how you look at it.

But with these 8 tips, you are surely going to land the perfect one, and that too without too much of a hassle!

1. Don't skip that meal – Yes, a seemingly silly piece of advice, which if not heeded, can ruin your entire experience! A growling belly can work its way up to your mood, and make you growl at everything. Losing patience in a matter as important as your wedding dress selection is too much of a risk!

2. Go well-groomed – An instant confidence booster and mood-lifter, a well-groomed look will earn praises from own reflection in the mirror, as you try on dress after dress! Moreover, it can give you an idea of how it will go with the actual makeup and hair combination.

3. The Right Shoes to Go – It is a good idea to take your wedding shoes along if you've already bought them (kudos!), or at least something similar that you may have in mind, when going to try-on dresses. A shoe can alter the fall of the dress, especially around the hems and you definitely can't afford even a slight mix-up on D-day, considering the time you are spending in this exercise!

4. The Correct Undergarments – Very important! There are just too many options out there, and trying the dresses on with the correct undergarments can make a world of a difference on the fitting of that dress! It is ideal to carry with you some shape-wear and thongs, backless/strapless/push-up bras etc.

5. Have a budget worked-out – Once you are out there, you will be enticed with numerous eye-popping options, but make sure you stick like a leech to your budget. Remember that it is likely you may not get to wear it again, so it makes a good point to rather save that money for the honeymoon! A word of advice, do not attempt to try on the million-dollar gowns 'just for fun'. You may just be so awed by it, that everything else that you see might pale in comparison!

6. The Dress-Code – Yes, you have got to adhere to your own dress code too! Whether a beach setting or a hotel wedding, make sure that you wear what works according to the environment, the background and the venue. The wedding is after all, also about the pictures, and you don't want to be looking the odd one out at your own wedding!

7. Don't make it a family occasion – Oh yes, this is one exciting drill for all the ladies, and no one wants to be left out – sisters, aunts, cousins, friends, colleagues, everyone wants to come with you! Remember, each one has a distinct style and perception, but you have your own, and yours is the one that matters the most! Too much advice, debating and discussion in the dress shop will only give you a headache. So, skip the entourage and head with the two or three who understand your style and can give you the best tips!

8. Be Open – You have your own style, and you have already thought up of some kind of a dress that you'd like. But, you may be surprised sometimes with the styles, cuts, lengths that you never thought would look good on you! So be open while choosing a dress, and ensure to try on as many as you can!

How to Prepare for That Long-pending Road Trip

Watching skyscrapers gradually give way to lush greenery, with bits of adventure thrown in, the experience of a road trip can be like none other! Whether you plan to spend a super time with family or simply wander about and explore with pals, road trips are the ultimate in guaranteeing you freedom, independence and a thrill that is unmatched. In this age of fast-track destination driven vacations, road trips can ensure that you make the journey count too!

History
The first-ever road trip to have been recorded dates way back to 1888 from Mannheim to Pforzheim in Germany, which is a distance of approximately 106 km. The trip was made by Bertha Benz, wife of Karl Benz, who invented the first patented motor car. And now, with beautiful highways, scenic environs, and advancement in technology, road trips are undertaken by the adventurous, spanning thousands of miles and even cross-country!

Planning the trip
The most obvious thing to do while planning a road trip is to chart out a map! It is ideal to mark the routes and understand traffic-zones. Also, if time is aplenty, planning small detours can prove to be more enthralling and an additional treat to the trip. The next most vital step in planning is to ensure that your vehicle is ready for the long drive ahead. It must be ensured that the tyres, air conditioners, windshield wipers, shockers etc are in good condition and that the critical spares are available with you.

Packing Essentials
Like every other mode of travel, there are things to keep in mind when heading to the wheel. Utmost care needs to be taken while packing to ensure a comfortable journey for all passengers. The most important are maps, first-aid, water and food. Also great music for the journey can be selected before-hand. Clothing, comprising jackets and blankets are a must, just in case you are unable to find a good place to rest when you need to take a break. Also, there are plenty of travel apps that can help you with finding hotels, restaurants, places for sightseeing and also to keep a tab on the weather! And never ever forget to pack-in your camera and spare batteries, for, what is a vacation without some awesome photographs to boot?!

Enticing Road Trips from around the World
Some of the world's most scenic road trips offer everything from charm to action-packed thrill!

China – The Guoliang Tunnel Road in the Taihang Mountains in north-eastern China, also known as the Precipice Long Corridor, is cut into the cliff by manual effort and is just 19 feet wide and 13 feet high. A drive down this road is a test of ability and invokes a sense of awe and wonder at this monumental triumph of human effort!

Morocco – The Atlas Mountain Road, situated in northeast Africa in Morocco, is 117 miles long and full of 250 degree hairpin bends. The road takes you up from Marrakech to 6000 feet onto the Tizi-n'Tichka pass from where you are rewarded with a mesmerizing view. From here, the road snakes back down to the desert oasis of Ouarzazate. This roller-coaster of a drive is sure to set your pulse racing!

New Zealand – The Milford Road, also known as Highway 94, is situated in the south-west corner of South Island. Taking you through an other-worldly realm, it winds its way from Queenstown on Lake Wakatipu, through rainforests and the glacier-carved Milford Sound, via the shores of Lake Te Anau and is surrounded by the pristine Ailsa mountains. This trip, that promises unparalleled beauty, deserves a mention on everyone's 'do-before-you-die' list!

Canada – The 114 miles long Icefields Parkway connects the Banff and Jasper National Parks and assures a visual treat of glaciers, caribous, moose and grizzlies! It was built during the Great Depression in 1940. The road gets its name from the Columbia Icefield, which is an expanse of glaciers that melt into the Pacific, Atlantic and Arctic oceans. With an abundance of wildlife, a dreamy landscape and lakes on the way that double the surreal splendor with their reflections, this trip is too good to pass!

Chile-Argentina – The Trans Andean highway astonishes you with the unique kaleidoscope it offers at the two mile long tunnel at Christ the Redeemer International Pass. The two ends of the tunnel showcase completely different landscapes, one of desert and rock on the Argentine side and lush greenery on the Chilean side! All of 226 miles, it connects Santiago in Chile to Mendoza in Argentina. The road climbs to an incredible 11,500 feet on the Andes and is both an important route for commerce as well as tourism. A must-see for its sheer uniqueness!

Virginia-North Carolina – This picturesque highway, called the Blue Ridge Parkway, connects Virginia and North Carolina in the Great Smoky Mountains via a 469 mile long stretch of breathtaking beauty, without any stoppages on the way! The road gets its name from the perpetual of haze of blue that drapes the mountains along this ridge. Come autumn, and the route enchants you with its eclectic hues cast by the trees. This route is a sure-shot heart warmer that fills you with awe along every mile!

Oregon – The Historic Columbia Highway, completed in 1922, moves you back in time! It connects Dodson and Corbett, just 15 miles apart, but takes you through a most magnificent journey past five mountain peaks, seven waterfalls and six state parks! Spring litters the drive with a profusion of colours and winter greets you with spectacular sights of the frozen waterfalls. The drive seems just out of a story-book and is a must-take road trip to experience sheer bliss!

Bolivia The country boasts of the North Yungas Road that, in the 1990's, was christened the most dangerous road in the world! However, now with much work undertaken targeted towards safety, it is still the narrow thread-like passage, almost as if atop a vertical 15,000 foot wall, that connects La Paz to Coroico via a 65 mile long road in the Bolivian Highlands. Eerily, the road has a stretch of 25 miles decorated with crosses that goes by the name of 'Death Road'! It is a favored track for the adventure enthusiast, and features in this list for its adrenaline pumping quirk!

With so much on offer and a lot that is as yet unexplored, what is holding you back? Gather your folks, get packing and hit the road!

DIY: No Sew Handbag Out of Your Old T-Shirt

Styles come and go, and that leaves us with hoards and piles of clothing that we probably would never wear again. But who says that we cannot 'use' them again, probably in another way that is chic and stylish? Maybe we can actually start a new trend with the old one! So don't throw away that bright old t-shirt just yet. Let us take you through this tutorial (directions, pictures, video) that will amaze you with an idea to make a handbag out of a T-shirt!

You will need:
– a pair of scissors;
– an old T-shirt.

That is it!!

So let's get set to create our hand-crafted T-shirt bag!
1. Set the T-shirt on a flat surface.
2. Cut out the binding seam from the base. Retain this, as we will use it later!
3. Now, fold the T-shirt in half vertically.
4. Cut around the collar in a nice deep semi-circle.
5. Next up, cut the sleeves a little away from the shoulder seam, towards the collar.
6. Open it up. Your T-shirt should ideally look like a neat tank-top!
7. Now turn the 'tank' inside-out.
8. Gather the base of the tank into a bunch and tie it with the binding seam that was cut out in step 2. Make sure you tie it tight, preferably in a double knot.
9. Now, again turn this arrangement inside-out.

There you go!
You've got a sizzling new hand-bag that is unique and trendy! No store stocks it so you know you own a piece of exclusivity, made all by yourself, thanks to the T-shirt you saved from last year!

Layers that are cut vertically add height to form an illusion of an elongated face. The length, when maintained just below the ears and not any longer than shoulder height, is perfect for this hairstyle.

2. New Haircut
If you have had the same hairstyle for all your years that you can remember, then you are definitely looking 10 years older than your age already! When you have maintained a hairstyle that long, even a little snip here and there can give you a fabulous new look. So take time to experiment!

3. The Bob
This is probably the worst hairstyle for a full face! A bob that ends at the chin usually has volume on the sides that brings attention to your chin and makes your face look much wider than it is. Therefore, when going with a bob, have it cut asymmetrically, or with a short back and long front to help chisel up your face.

4. Side Part or Side Bang
A neat trick is to have an asymmetrical bang swept to the side. This helps to add length to a full face. Avoid full straight edged bangs completely as they cut the height of the face and make it look rounder.

5. Volume on Top
It helps greatly if you make a style that allows you to have lots of volume on the top of your head. This takes the attention away from the cheeks and shifts it towards your eyes. Try blow drying or clamping with pins to achieve this effect.

6. Accessories
The trick here is the placement. Make sure that you place your clips, bands and other hair embellishments towards the crown of your head to give your face an elongated shape.

With these above simple yet clever tips you can easily let people believe you have that same amazing face, while you secretly think of all those cakes and cookies you had over the holidays and still manage to look so damn good!

Awesome Idea for a Wedding Dress Cake

Your best friend's bridal shower is just round the corner and if you are wondering about a gift that would reach her heart and be remembered, then we have an awesome DIY idea for you, to help you win appreciation, love and above all, to help get an unforgettable smile on your best friend's face! Make her a cake which is designed like a wedding dress, how about that! Sounds like too much of a trouble? Well, just go through this tutorial (see also the video below) and you can decide for yourself!

You will need:
– 27 cupcakes; try to make these yourself to add that extra personal touch!
– a cake board large enough for placing 27 cupcakes;
– frosting or butter cream for topping;
– pastry bag;
– decoration items, such as beads, flowers, bows, ribbons etc;

Get set for action:
1. Arrange the cupcakes in the form of a wedding dress over the cake board.
2. Use 8 cupcakes for the collar in a U-shape, 2 placed side-by-side for the waist and the rest for the skirt by progressively increasing the number of cakes in each row.
3. Make sure that the cupcakes touch one another.
4. Now, fill the pastry bag with the cream or frosting and starting from the centre of the cake, go all around in circles to make a rose shape.
5. Repeat for each cupcake in the same way by making sure that the entire surface of the cake gets covered.
6. That really is it! Now decorate the cake; place some beads around the waist, add a magic wand, or you could even add some lace to make it look like an authentic dress!

Your cake is ready to be the highlight of the party and a milestone down memory lane!

Charming Fabric Butterflies – DIY

A delicate little butterfly fluttering around your hair or sitting on your shoulder can make a very pretty sight! And you can make this come true by making hair-pins, brooches and every other imaginable accessory, through strips of cloth that are fashioned into butterflies using the centuries old technique of 'tsumami kanzashi'. Let us learn how to invite these beauties into our ensemble!

You will need:
– 10 fabric squares in silk, satin or organza (preferably 5 cms wide) in two colours;
– glue gun;
– felt in a rectangular shape of 1×2 cm dimension;
– hair clip, brooch pin etc;
– bobby pins or modelling wire;
– large scissors or tweezers.

Let's go!
1. Take one square of each color for the rounded wing.
2. Place one over the other and seal the sides so that they do not unravel.
3. Make a pair of small round petals out of the smaller squares.
4. Now make pointy petals by folding the square once diagonally, and then by folding it in two again to make a smaller triangle.
5. Surround the rounded petals with the pointy petals.
6. Measure the wings and cut to re-size them.
7. Now, for the body, prepare a shallow pointy petal, which is cut off slightly from the base.
8. Prepare a small and short pointy round petal for the head.
9. Now glue the upper wing to the lower wings.
10. Use the glue gun to attach the two sides of the butterfly one by one and wait until the glue hardens.
11. Now glue the head to the body.
12. Use bobby pins or modelling wire to make antennae and attach these to the head with glue.
13. Attach the felt piece to the back of the butterfly and glue on your hair clip or brooch.

Your fantastic accessory is ready to win hearts! Charming and feminine, these little butterflies are a delight to create and just as magnificent to wear!

Make Your Own Coin Purse with Soda Tabs

We haven't really thought much about that can of soda that we finished and threw away, have we? Well guess what, after reading through this tutorial, you just might start finding yourself searching around in trash for the soda can! Well, not really for the can, but for the tabs. There sure is wealth in waste, and we will teach you here how to make a fabulous coin purse just with thread, soda tabs and a clever hand with the needle! Crochet skills are required!

You need:
– a thick thread of your favourite colour;
– crochet needle;
– as many soda tabs as you can lay your hands on!

How to go about it:
1. Start by creating the base. You will have two options:
  a. Connect two soda tabs with the crochet technique. Continue on until you have a chain that is of reasonable length. Now join the two ends with crochet knitting to form a circle. Check out the video below to see the technique.
b. Crochet a flat circle with 18 columns, then add soda tabs piece by piece until you obtain a round shape. See picture.
2. Make the next row of soda tabs on this circle by knitting through the upper loop of the bottom tab and lower loop of the upper tab.
3. Keep arranging circle after circle until you reach the desired size.
4. Make another set of soda tab circles in the same manner.
5. Sew on a zipper to both sets of soda tab circles, so that they get connected at the zipper.

You now have a superbly fashionable coin purse that doesn't cost a dime, is fun to make, and is environment friendly! So go save the world and have a trendy fashion accessory, all at once!
