Since time immemorial, women have been known to dabble in weird hacks to achieve beauty. Well, some of these needn't require a millionaire's credit card or a trip to the parlour.
The following remedies, though surely weird from a normal woman's perspective, are genuinely effective and can easily be managed right in the comfort of your own house with the cheapest of kitchen ingredients!
1.Coca-Cola Waves
Well yes, Coca-Cola creates waves, but not just as a drink but also as a hairstylist! Suky Waterhouse shared this hair hack for hair waves on the US weekly. Don't believe it? Just pour some coke over freshly washed hair, tousle with fingers, blow dry and voila! And there is some science behind it, just in case you thought this was an eye-wash. Coke is primarily composed of phosphoric acid and sugar. The low pH causes the cuticles to shrink making them curl, while the sugar makes your tresses look fuller by sticking them together!
2.Puffy-Eye Spoon Trick
Ever woke up with loaded bags under your eyes? It the worst kind of morning for any pretty lady, and we tell you here just how to make your day! Freeze two tablespoons overnight. Simply dab these cold spoons on the baggy area under your eyes, close to the inner corner. The cold temperature of the spoon helps to constrict the pores and thereby minimize the puffiness! So, it's a 'Good Morning' everyday! Check out: Idea to De-Puff Tired Eyes.
3.Freshen up your Breath with Baking Soda
With a neat trick that is available right in the convenience of your kitchen, you can boldly approach the neighborhood hunk with all your confidence! And that magic potion is nothing else but baking soda! Sprinkle some onto your toothpaste or dissolve two teaspoons in a glass of warm water for a quick mouthwash and you've got yourself fresh breath! The bicarbonates in the soda help maintain pH balance and fight bacteria and microbes in your mouth.
4.Mayonnaise Hair Mask
Hair masks are designed to give that much needed nutrition to dull hair. And what better way to give them a boost than to let them soak in a protein shake? Your mayonnaise definitely is better utilized on the hair rather than on that sandwich! Replete with protein from egg yolks and olive oil, this mask is the ultimate nourishment boost to dull hair. Apply some mayonnaise to semi-wet hair, cover with a shower cap, retain for 30 minutes and wash off. Glossy hair is all yours! See also: Mayonnaise Hair Mask For Hair Growth And Shine.
5.Meat Mask for the Face
Not one for the weak hearted, this mask is definitely worth a try for the simple reason that it really works! Once popular in the middle-ages, this mask rejuvenates the skin with rare proteins, blood cells and fibres. The more you think about it, the more you will go 'ugghhh', so settle into this idea as early as you can! Beat a veal fillet, refrigerate for 10 minutes and then apply generously to the face. Keep it on for 20 minutes and wash off!
6.The Potato Mask
This probably is the easiest thing to do for toned and evenly pigmented skin! Simply boil and mash two potatoes, add some drops of olive oil and apply to your face after cleansing. Potatoes being a good source of zinc, vitamin C, and magnesium work on skin colour pigments to make your face look brighter! So now you needn't really run away from that potato!
7.Combat Acne with Toothpaste
Your toothpaste can have many more uses than you could ever imagine, all thanks to its active ingredients such as hydrogen peroxide, tea-tree oil, triclosan and baking powder! Zap that pimple in a matter of 20 minutes by spot-application of organic toothpaste with a Q-tip. No, it isn't magic, but the ingredients have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that helps dry out that nasty pimple!
8.The Egg Shampoo
Time to chuck those super expensive shampoos out the window, because you can create your very own shampoo that is a zillion times more effective and dirt cheap! Just mix 3 eggs with some drops of olive oil and massage gently into your hair. Guess what, this 'shampoo' even begins to foam in a matter of minutes! A nutritious treat for your hair, the egg yolks provide protein while the lecithin acts a cleanser. What more does one need!
9.Lemon Attack for Blackheads
Blackheads remind you of all those painful visits to your beautician! Ugly and stubborn, they are also a breeding ground for microbes. Attack them with the simplest remedy you can find in your kitchen; lemon, honey and sugar; and this really is it! Cut the lemon in half, douse it in honey and sprinkle some sugar on it. Gently rub your face with this, focusing on the problem-areas, sit back, relax and wash off! The delightful properties of hesperetin, naringin and ascorbic acid work their 'charm' on the blackheads, ensuring that they leave you for good!
10.Beer Shower for Luscious Hair
Save some beer from that last party to spice up your hair! The extra beer anyway would only contribute to a distasteful belly, but here we've got a plan to make the silica, vitamin B, rice proteins, magnesium and silica in beer work to give you shiny locks! A secret stolen from the gorgeous Catherine Zeta Jones, simply pour a glass of beer over your hair, let it be so for the next 5-7 minutes, avoid the urge to stick your tongue out and catch the drizzling drops, and wash off with cold water. The smell could always be worked off with some conditioner. You could also store it up in a spray container and just spritz some after your wash!
The next time someone compliments you on your glowing skin and stunning hair, you can chuckle inwardly as you let them think of the bomb you spent in getting your look right!
