Your Complete Guide to Bedroom Makeover

Most of us have to admit, bedrooms are a huge part of our lives. We spend at least six to eight hours inside our bedroom, and when things get tough at work or at school, it is perhaps the place you want to go the most. But, why do you need to consider doing a bedroom makeover?

Well, you might agree that your bedroom is the most private part of the house. Others can come over and see your living room, your kitchen, and even use your bathroom, but most of the time only close friends and family members can get inside your bedroom. It's not like any random guest can come inside and look around your chamber. It's our comfort zone, but frequently neglected. So, when people decorate their house their bedroom is not always the first place they want to start with.

Another reason why we tend to forget the importance of decorating your bedroom is that most of us simply don't have the time, energy, or resources to do it. Those who work from 8 to 5, or even more, can be very exhausted once they get home. Students are loaded with assignments, tests, or homework. The cost of a bedroom makeover can also be quite high, if not done the right way. Sometimes, it feels rather impractical to makeover an area almost no one would see.

So, let us look at several tips, several things we can do to decorate our bedroom. While not all tips may apply to your bedroom, some of them are very easy and work for everyone. So, let's get started!

1. Simple is best

Your bedroom decoration doesn't have to be intricate, with lots of decorative items laying here and there. On the contrary, it is recommended that you keep the layout simple. Make sure the most important aspect of your bedroom, your bed, is easily accessible. 'Accessible' also means you don't have to step, bump, or kick any ornaments or furniture around your bed. So, keep it simple and neat.

2. Experiment with darker colours

We want our bedroom to be comfortable, and often we feel we have to use bright-coloured paint on our wall. Well, it's not always the case. White is great, but you can always opt for darker colours like navy blue or grey.

3. Lighting is essential

If your bedroom has access to sunlight, make the best use out of it! Also, table lamps, floor lamps, or even a reading scones can help brighten your room and make you feel better.

4. Colours, colours, colours

Your bedroom doesn't have to be decorated in one, single colour tone. You can always add more colours to your bedroom. Why don't you pick a yellow wall clock, light blue sheets, or a pink desk lamp? If they're not your taste, you can always choose subtler colours such as blue, lavender, or brown.

If you're feeling artsy, wall mural by PhotoWall is a great option. It can instantly liven your bedroom, add some natural touch to it, and doesn't take days to dry – like paint! Wall murals are also great if you want to add some intricate details without having to actually paint them by hand or to hire someone to do it for you. They're relatively cheaper and easier to clean, compared to regular paint.

5. A nightstand is not a must

While they are practical, there's no written rule that you have to own a nightstand next to your bed – especially if your bed dwarfs the nearby nightstand.

6. Curtains can enlarge your room

Well, not quite literally. But they can create the illusion of space. However, make sure the fabric matches the wall colour. This way, it's easier on the eye and looks neater.

7. Neat and clean

It's essential, it's obvious – but we have to get it out there to remind all of you. Your bedroom should be free of clutter, and that way, it's easier to clean. Take five minutes before you leave for work or school to make your bed, make sure there's no dirty laundry on the floor, and clean the crumbs on the desk or the floor.

8. Place some houseplants inside

Plants are great – they freshen up your room and add a decorative touch to it. Your houseplants don't have to be expensive or bulky – simpler, easy-to-care-for plants would be enough.

9. Double-duty furniture

A piece of furniture doesn't have to serve a single purpose. This is true, especially if your bedroom is small and you can't fit lots of furniture. You need to maximize all the space you have, and sometimes you have to get creative. Some beds have a lower compartment that allows you to keep your bags or clothes inside.

10. Big beds are okay

Some of us have to struggle with having a small bedroom. A cramped space can make you feel stressed, and this is why many opt for smaller beds – even if they're less comfortable. If your room allows for a slightly larger bed, it's okay to own a large bed and remove some unnecessary furniture such as a nightstand or rack. This way, you can sleep comfortably.

11. Ceilings are important

When you lie down on your bed, the last thing you want to see would be dull or even blotched, ceilings. So, make sure your ceilings are painted well, and free of spider nets or cracks.

Conclusion

The bedroom is your sanctuary. Spending time in a comfortable, cozy space can instantly rejuvenate you. On the contrary, if your bedroom is messy and dull, you wouldn't feel refreshed after a long day at work or at school.
