There are just so many misconceptions about female facial hair going around the internet (and in real life), that it's almost funny. I mean, let's be real; just because it's not being openly discussed by women themselves, it doesn't mean there's something ~mysterious~ or fascinating about it! Here, we'll be debunking several female facial hair myths; and hopefully by the end of the article you'll have a clearer understanding on it (unless you're a female, obviously). Let's get started!
1. Women don't have facial hair
Now, we don't know where did this myth come from, or who started it. And honestly, it's weird to think so! Just because it's less visible than male facial hair, it doesn't mean that women don't have facial hair. In fact, most do; and you can even notice it easily on some.
2. Women only have it on their upper lip
Well, we do have hair on our upper lip; but hey! They're called facial for a reason; maybe because they sprout from almost anywhere on our face? Yes, we do have it on our upper lip, but they also appear in our chin, neck, and cheeks.
3. Only dark-haired and light-skinned women have it
No, no, no. This is not true at all! True, on some people, due to their complexion and hereditary hair color, facial hair can be more visible; but trust me, most women have facial hair.
4. You shouldn't remove it (for various reasons)
There are countless reasons, being passed from generations to generations, on why you should never pluck off your facial hair. They will either grow even faster, thicker, or you'll end up with more facial hair (OH!). But relax, none of them is true! It may seem like they grow more, quicker, or thicker; but most of the time it's just how you feel. So if you feel the need to, don't hesitate to shave them off!
5. You must remove your facial hair
But then again, there's no written rule on why you must remove your facial hair. Only do so if you feel comfortable; and don't let anyone pressure you to do anything you're unsure of. We understand that removing facial hair can be quite tricky for some; especially since facial hair tends to be very thin and smooth, so if you're afraid of getting hurt or cut yourself and choose not to, then don't. You can shave it off or you can use a depilatory cream, but waxing may be a good solution (see: Homemade Facial Hair Removal Mask). If you want to shave it off, make sure you learn how to properly do so. Nevertheless, there is a new process of removing unwanted hair that is very popular nowadays: Laser hair removal or IPL (Intense Pulsed Light).
6. You have hormone imbalances if you have facial hair
Some hormone imbalances cases may result on excessive growth in facial hair. However, it does NOT mean you have hormone imbalances just because you have facial hair. Because if that's the case, then all us women need to get checked.
7. Facial hair is always thick
If you think that facial hair equals prickly, thick hair commonly found on male, then you need to readjust your view. The fact is, there are many different kinds of facial hair. On women, they tend to be rather fine and short; rather than wiry and thick.

Different makeup trends are making their ways online thanks to the abundant social media platforms. With one click, you can share or even upload your own version of the trend. This neon makeup trend is not an exception. Popularized by beauty gurus from YouTube and Instagram, we are now blessed with what is a great makeup trend this year.
Among them, we have Kristen Leanne. Known for her bold makeup style, utilizing bright and luminous colors, Leanne is definitely your number 1 destination if you're looking for a neon makeup tutorial. She uploaded a 10-minute video on how to recreate the neon makeup trend. If you don't have enough time to watch the whole thing, just jot this down: all you need is some bright eye shadow and some white liquid eyeliner. Simple as that!
Now let's get started. Using the white eyeliner as a base, simply draw your white line as thick as you'd like, in your desired shape (bonus point if you can draw hearts or other figures on your eyelid. Bravo). Once the color sets, add your bright-color eye shadow on top and there you go! The neon makeup!
And they don't work only on eyes! Like Leanne, you can use vivid-colored eye shadows on your lips (make sure to put on nude-colored lipstick as the base) then draw a thin line on top of the shadow using a neon body paint. Be careful, though! Eye shadows aren't edible, so you'd have to wipe it off before having your dinner!
You can also consider doing a toned-down version of the look, using darker colors and put more emphasis on winged eyeliner instead of eye-popping colors. If you're looking for something the polar opposite, though, you can use some glow-in-the-dark products.

Just when you think the world has run out of weird trends to be obsessed over, we're once again shocked by the news of freckles tattoos. This head-turning trend seems to go against the conventional beauty standard which deems freckles as unattractive and encourage both women and men to cover up their freckles. This notion, sadly, has been going around for years, so the sudden love for freckles is nothing but expected.
If you're freckled, then you may still remember the frustration of having to dab foundation and beauty products just to conceal your freckles. But now, consider yourself lucky. Freckle-free people actually apply freckles tattoos across the tops of cheeks and nose using a semi-permanent tattooing technique.
The tattoos may look dark and raised at first, but it will gradually fade and leave you with a more natural tone after few months (1 or 2 month, most of the time). The tattoos are not permanent, so after some time, if you decide that freckles aren't for you, you don't have to panic. They will fade completely.
However, you may have to consider the fee. Getting freckles tattoos can cost you up to $250 per session (the session usually lasts an hour). But if you consider that the freckles tattoos made it to the Marc Jacobs fall 2017 show, spending $250 for the cute ink won't be a bad decision, right?
But, then again, the tattoos are getting mixed opinion. Some feel the ink is just not worth it, especially since it'll fade gradually. Some say they look like blackheads, it doesn't look natural, and the trend would eventually die down. Those with natural freckles just don't understand why do people actually spend money and go through the pain of getting freckles tattooed on their faces. To a certain extent, some label the tattoos offensive.
If you're not up for the commitment of getting semi-permanent tattoos, you can always opt for temporary freckles tattoos (they come in a shape of stencils you can stick on your face and peel off afterwards) or penciled on ones. Some with extraordinary makeup skill can even recreate freckles using makeup products. Have fun trying!

It's safe to assume that chapped lips is never a good thing for anyone. But do you know, there are hidden reasons you have chapped lips? You may have known that dehydration, being exposed to the sun for a long time, strong wind (especially common when it's winter), or even allergic reaction can lead to chapped lips. The first treatment we think of? Lip balm, obviously. Chapped lips, after all, can be quite painful and uncomfortable. And let's not get to how ugly it looks!
But again, there are several reasons you have chapped lips you rarely hear about. In fact, they can be quite surprising! Read them below and see whether you can do something to improve the condition (of your lips!)
1. Using lip balm excessively
Gasp! We understand that everywhere, all around the world, the only acceptable way to cure chapped lips would be to apply lip balm. And it works, 99% of the time. But, fun fact: some lip balms include certain humectants that actually pull moisture out of your lips in their ingredients. What a shock! The solution? Go for brands that use all-natural ingredients; they can keep your lips moisturized for a longer time.
2. Using the wrong lip balm
Two things you need to jot down on your don't-buy list: (1) flavored lip balms and (2) menthol lip balms. The reason? They do nothing to help your lips; especially the menthol lip balm. Sure, the minty sensation feels good for a while; but your lips aren't getting better. Sorry.
3. Using the wrong toothpaste
Some toothpaste brands use what's commonly known as SLS – or sodium laurel sulfate. The foaming ingredient can lead to chapped lips; so it's time to check your toothpaste's ingredients!
4. Wearing lipstick
Wearing lipstick for a long time can damage your lips. This includes matte lipstick and liquid lipstick. The solution? You can either apply lip balm before applying lipstick, using tinted balm instead of lipstick, or do a complete after-care (removing your lipstick entirely at the end of the day and use an ultra-moisturizing lip balm at night.
5. Using lip plumpers
We know Kylie Jenner's lips are the ultimate #lipgoals; but using lip plumper isn't the best way to have them. One reason why, they may contain irritants that can dry your lips. However, if you insist on using them, make sure you drink lots of water!
6. The air around you is too dry/hot
During winter, you may have the urge to crank up the heater. But beware! This can dry up the air around you and this means your lips (and your skin) would also get dry. Try to turn it down overnight, or invest in a humidifier. Pro tip: try to shower with less-hot water; or limit your super-hot showers.
7. Not drinking enough water
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! We can't emphasize this enough! Take at least 6-8 cups of water a day to stay hydrated and stay away from chapped lips.
8. Eating spicy foods
If you love spicy foods, we have a bad news. Spices can break down your skin barrier, which makes it dry out faster; and your lips too. The solution? Again, stay hydrated.
9. Licking your lips
Often when we don't have our lip balms around, the quick fix to chapped lips is our 'natural' balm; saliva. But it's time to quit the habit. One, since it can leave foul odor and two, it just dries out your lips faster.
10. Not putting on SPF on your lips
In fact, yes we do need to put some kind of protection against the sun on our lips. Just like our skin can get dry after being sun burnt, our lips too, can get flaky after being exposed to the sun for a long time. There are plenty of lip balms with SPF that you can buy; plus some are water-resistant, so you can take them to the beach!
11. Exfoliating your lips too often
Scrubbing your lips can get rid of the dead skin pretty effectively, but doing it too often isn't recommended. Try to do it not more than once a week.

Putting on makeup is often a hassle for many; since some has to spend a long time in a bathroom or in front of a dressing table doing makeup. However, simple makeup ideas can be a much better alternative compared to spending minutes or even hours each day putting on makeup. And these ideas are especially handy if you have to leave for work early in the morning, and you just need that another 5 minute in bed. The ideas are also perfect for beginners, or if you want to appear casual without heavy makeup.
First, let's begin with the most basic, most time-efficient makeup routine that'd take you no more than 3 minutes to appear flawless. Famous Youtuber clothesencounters provided us with the tutorial via her channel, and all you'd need are foundation, brows, and mascara. If you have more than 3 minutes, you can add more variation to the routine.
Next, the 5 minutes makeup idea! This makeup can be done in less than 5 minutes, in fact, because all you need are simple, smudgy eyeliner, a thick coat of mascara, and a few layers of concealer and lip gloss. This works for all skin tones, and the final result is stunning! At first, even I had a hard time believing it's possible to achieve the look in just 5 minutes.
Third on our list is the 10 minutes makeup routine. Thank Melissa Merk for uploading her natural + glowy makeup routine which provides us with a step-by-step tutorial. Within 10 minutes, Melissa could put on cream-based bronzer, foundation, and blush, and a light layer of matte eyeshadow and copper eyeliner. Prior to that, she put on argan oil to moisturize her skin.
Finally, the 15 minutes makeup idea! If you're lucky enough to have at least quarter-hour to do your makeup, make the best out of it! You can contour, put on foundation and concealer, blend your blusher, fill your brows and do some highlighting! Make sure to keep it light and don't overdo it!

Going to nail salons and get your nails done is often the fastest, most time-efficient way to get gorgeous nails. However, it's important for you to know how to avoid unsanitary nail salons before choosing one. The thing is, hygiene is an extremely important factor you need to consider before choosing your nail salon. Otherwise, you're under the risk of contracting various transmitted diseases; just because you want to have pretty nails!
However, this doesn't mean you shouldn't go to nail salons at all! By taking these preventive steps, you can find a hygienic, safe nail salon. Check them out below!
1. Research the salon
The first and foremost thing you need to do is to online research the salon. Check their website (or their social media account) to see what did their past customers say. If you see negative reviews, try to read about what happened. See if there's any discussion on their hygiene and possible health risks.
2. Inspect!
Ask these things:
a. Does your salon follow the safety standards? Do you use liquid disinfection or steam sterilization for your equipment?
b. How do you cut calluses?
c. Are the nail technicians required to wear gloves?
d. Are there any nail technicians with advanced training?
You can ask these questions through a phone call or in person. Licensing is a serious issue, so make sure you know what kind of license the nail technicians have and whether they have proper training or not.
3. Take a quick glance
Many can be known from the environment of the salon. Take a quick look around. Check the cleanliness of the floors, ceilings, and walls; as well as the tables and the work areas. No nail clippings, dead skin, mold (ew!), or dirt should be found. Be attentive!
4. Ask the workers
Next, carefully inspect the tools. Nail clippers, files cuticle scissors, or other nail tools have to be hygienic and kept in air tight pouches after being cleaned. Talk to the workers, and ask how they clean such tools. Most use liquid disinfectants or steam treatments in an autoclave; but if they're using neither, time to step out!
5. Observe the workers
In case you find it hard to believe what the workers have to say (either because their answers are ambiguous or just because you don't want to take risks), linger around the nail shop for a while to observe the workers. Do they sanitize the tables and tools between each guest? How clean are they? Do they wear gloves? Do they wash their hands carefully after handling each guest?
6. See where the tools come from
Once you decide that the nail salon is hygienic enough, make sure that the tools and where they come from is sterile. If you're unsure, ask for new ones.
7. Don't cut your cuticles
Inexperienced nail technicians may attempt to cut your cuticles, but under no circumstances should you allow this. They naturally provide protection against infections, so this is a big no-no; even if you want to do it yourself. Only allow them to be gently pushed back after they have been soaked and softened in water, and don't shave your legs before going to the nail salon.
8. Bring your own equipments (and nail polish!)
This is a move that your technician may not like, but convince them to at least try using your own equipments. After using them, make sure they're clean and ready for the next time you're using it.
9. Remove calluses the right way
Removing calluses is probably your favorite part out of the nail salon visit. However, make sure that the pumice stone used is clean (if you're unsure, you can also bring your own) and the worker isn't using a razor or chemical callus remover. They can be damaging to your skin and the last thing you want is infected and cut feet.
10. Check the tab
Before going for a manicure or pedicure, check the condition of the tab. Make sure it's emptied, cleaned, and refilled.
11. Go when it's not busy
You may have to adjust your schedule, and call the nail salon beforehand to note their busy days (and hours), but less busy days equal to more time for thorough cleaning between each patron. And this equals cleaner nail salon experience!
Finally, you need to understand the risk of going to a nail salon. Although nails seem to be a trivial part of the body, it's entirely possible for you to get infected by diseases such hepatitis, HIV/AIDs, Staph, strep, and MRSA, or tinea. Make sure you are fully aware of the risks and that your chosen nail salon is hygienic. Stay pretty, stay healthy!
