How To Dress Stylish And Chic As A Muslim Woman

With the current fashion trends, many of the fads and outfits are unsuitable for Muslim women. These trends often involve fabulous displays of the hair and other body parts that Muslims don't subscribe to. But then, fashion for a Muslim woman doesn't have to be stuck in the 19th century. In fact, with a hijab or abaya, you can look as stunning as you want without having to dress in a way that Islam frowns upon.

Here are some tips that can help you look stylish and chic as a Muslim woman:

1. Do Your Research

As a Muslim, you have different standards to uphold compared to your non-Muslim friends. It's quite easy to forget what's acceptable and what's not with regards to your dressing. Doing some research on the rules of modesty in your religion can help you ensure you're making the right decisions when it comes to what you wear.

There have been several debates on what qualifies as modest and what's not, especially as outlined in the Qur'an. Updating your knowledge on these debates will help you understand the benefits of wearing a hijab and prepare you to make an informed decision.

2. Talk To Elders In Your Islamic Community

You should discuss the topic of modesty with your parents and other elders in your community. They will have more knowledge and experience on what's acceptable and can offer you some guidance. You can talk about how they feel about the hijab, whether or not you should get your abaya wholesale, or whether or not you should even wear one at all.

Besides a direct conversation, you can also take cues from the way the women in your community dress up. You can also ask your mom and dad to go shopping with you and help you pick out clothes to wear. Even though it's easy for you to think that their fashion sense is outdated, they might just surprise you.

3. Explore Your Options

Just because you have to dress modestly doesn't mean you don't have a wide range of options to choose from. Even though you're required to only expose parts of your body that ordinarily appear, you can still cover your hair in a modest but fashionable way. You can choose from different styles of hijabs, depending on the one that matches your sense of style. Some of the types of hijabs include: Shayla, Khimar, Chador, Niqab, Burqa. You can even wear hijab that comes with colors and patterns if you feel comfortable in them.

Another range of options you can explore is the makeup you put on. You should only wear bright and attention-grabbing colors sparingly. For the most part, modest and natural-looking makeup will be just as fine. It can help you look youthful and beautiful without drawing unnecessary attention. You should also apply small amounts of foundation, blush, mascara, and lip gloss.

The Perfect Travel Playlist

It doesn't exist. The perfect travel playlist, I mean. Like, there's no one specific playlist that is going to be perfect for every individual who is currently traveling. Rather, finding the right playlist is going to be contingent on a variety of factors.

How are you traveling?

In our day to day lives music is so readily available that we don't even think about how we're going to listen to it. In our living room alone, I can play music from a Google Home, an Amazon Alexa, my PS4 using Spotify, my computer using Pandora, and my phone using Youtube. Oh, and there's an old dusty record player in the corner as well.

All in all, that means I could be listening to music from six different sources at the same time, all in one room. I'm guessing your house isn't too different. But what about when you actually hit the road/sky/train tracks? It's not exactly prudent to blast AC/DC out of a boom box if you're taking an airplane to your chosen destination. Let's go over the best option for each method of travel.

1. Plane

No wifi means you need to have your music prepped ahead of time. Download the songs you want onto a phone or small music device ahead of time, and pack a nice pair of headphones. High quality headphones can even double as a head rest or pillow!

2. Trains and Busses

Despite the beliefs and accompanying actions of that one guy who actively ruins your daily commute to work by blasting his electro-pop full blast through a portable speaker, people don't want to listen to your music. There's no specific right way to listen to music on trains and busses, but there is a wrong way. Keep it quiet and polite!

3. Car

In this author's humble opinion, nothing beats the power beats of a mixtape or CD. Car traveling offers more options for music consumption than any other method of movement. Radio, CD's, tapes, AUX cords, and even just singing at the top of your lungs are all great options. Roll your windows down and let the trees on the side of the highway get a taste of your tunes.

Where are you traveling?

Now, some people would argue it doesn't matter where you're going, you should just listen to whatever you like. However, matching your music tastes to the culture of your destination can be an incredibly rewarding experience.

Let's say, for example, that you're headed to Nashville, also known as Music City. The city is famous for its roots in country music, and many of the best attractions of the city are centered around country music. Which means, if you're headed to Nashville, you should make a country music playlist ahead of time. Bonus points if you make an effort to listen to music by an artist you could watch perform live in Nashville during your time there. Similarly, if you're walking back to your Stay Alfred rental apartment, you gotta listen to a tune that reminds you of home.

This technique of suiting your music to match your destination is a good way to get a feel for the culture of the place you're traveling to ahead of time. And if you're traveling to a foreign country, there's no better way to simultaneously learn some of their language and attitude than through their music.

How long are you traveling?

When I was eight years old, my mom took me and my sister on a four day train ride from Washington to Minnesota. She told me to pack some CD's for my discman, but I only packed one CD. That disc? The Lion King soundtrack. And I am here to tell ya, there are only so many times you can listen to I Just Can't Wait to be King and Hakuna Matata before you really regret not packing your Rolling Stones tunes as well.

I hope that cautionary tale serves you well. Make sure that whatever music you pack, you bring enough of it. Because no matter how perfect your playlist seems on paper, if you run out of toons halfway to your destination, it's gonna be a bummer.

Why are you traveling?

Last but not least, your music has to fit your mood. Traveling to Iceland for business is different than traveling there for pleasure, and our music choices should reflect that. If you're headed somewhere stressful, remember that the perfect music might not be music at all. Download an hour-long meditation, or some soothing nature calls perhaps. Don't forget your pump up song for before your important meeting!

So, to summarize: there is no such thing as a universal perfect playlist, but you can absolutely have a personal perfect playlist. The contents of that perfect playlist can change based on mood, weather, time traveling, reason for traveling, etc. The perfect playlist for traveling to Texas will not be the same as the perfect playlist for traveling to Berlin.

Oh geez, I almost forgot the most important rule of all. The perfect travel playlist should be fun for everyone who hears is, but especially for the person who made it!

How to Take a Luxury Vacation on a Budget

Traveling to new and exotic destinations is good for the body, mind and spirit. You can relax, experience new adventures and have a more open mind about the world's cultures and people when you vacation around the world. But how can you take a luxury vacation when you're on a budget? Traveling in style may be much more affordable than you think! Here are five simple ways to save money when planning a trip to an exotic destination.

1. Start Using a Credit Card With Travel Rewards

No matter what your budget, you can start saving more at a faster rate by making some practical changes. Open a credit card that offers excellent rewards for travelers, like points towards flights, rental cars and hotel stays. Then use the card for all of your everyday purchases and simply pay it off every month from your checking account. You'll be chipping away at your travel expenses without setting aside any extra money. Make sure you do your research before applying; there are several options out there that can offer double the benefits of their more well-known competitors.

2. Travel During the Off-Season

If you want to spend the most money on your vacation, then plan a trip for when the demand for flights and hotels is high, like summertime, Christmas and other major holidays. But if you want to get the best rates, save your vacation and take a week off to travel during the off season. This varies depending on the area you plan to visit, but for most locations, it's cheapest to travel in February and September, after Labor Day.

3. Make Your Money Go Farther by Getting the Best Exchange Rates

If you're traveling out of the country, you're going to need to acquire the currency of that region to pay for the majority of your trip. However, it's difficult to know exactly how much a trip will cost and if unexpected expenses will arise. Have a plan in place so that a friend or family member can help you get the money you need while you're abroad. One way to get a good exchange rate is with Sharemoney, which allows you to see competitors' rates before you complete a wire transfer so you know if you're getting a good deal.

4. Consider Renting a Room or Home Instead of Booking a Hotel

Most people stay in a hotel when vacationing, but you could get a lot more bang for your buck by house sitting or renting a vacation home in the area. Not only can you find cheaper options, but you'll have more amenities to choose from that can boost your savings, like free parking, kitchens and room to sleep more people in one location. You'll live like a local and pocket some extra cash when you don't have to eat out for every single meal.

5. Search for All-Inclusive Options

If you really want to live it up and stay in a hotel or resort, you can still enjoy all of the top of the line accommodations and amenities while saving some serious cash when you stay at an all-inclusive resort. You can save money in countries like Colombia by choosing packages that include your meals, excursions and even your drinks so you know what you're spending before you ever take off for your trip. You'll also save a lot of unnecessary wasted time and stress when you don't have to add up the costs of everyone's menu selections.

With a little saving and careful planning, you can be well on your way to the vacation of your dreams. Start preparing for your next big trip today!

Is Collagen Banking The Answer To Long-Term Youthfulness?

With the anti-aging market set to hit $55.03 million by 2023 , individuals are constantly looking for new ways to keep their skin youthful. One of the latest methods supported by beauty experts is collagen banking, with some arguing that it's the biggest secret to younger-looking skin. But what exactly is collagen banking and should you try it?

Photo: indiamart.com

Understanding collagen banking

Collagen banking might sound like a procedure that involves collecting and storing collagen for use later on in life but it's actually something very different. Collagen banking involves treatments being given to individuals to repair existing collagen and support the growth of new collagen. Experts say by supporting collagen production as early on in life as possible, it will benefit your supply in your later years and help you stay looking younger for longer.

Collagen banking treatments

Any procedure that promises to repair existing collagen in the skin and produce new collagen is viewed as a collagen banking treatment . Some of the most popular and most effective treatments include ultherapy treatments, botox, and microneedling.

Ultherapy uses ultrasound technology to penetrate the skin, whereas during botox, botulinum toxin is injected into various points on the face. Microneedling, on the other hand, involves the insertion of fine needles to improve the layers of the skin. Once the skin has been pricked, it encourages the growth of new collagen and enhances the overall texture and appearance of the skin.

When to start

Collagen levels peak during your early 20s and start to drop off from around 25. As such, dermatologists in favor of collagen banking suggest that your 20s is the ideal time to start having treatments such as ultherapy, botox, and microneedling.

Dermatologist Dr. Heather Rogers states that "The sooner this process starts, the less damage there is that has to be undone and the more these efforts can work toward building and maintaining collagen, which is like putting money in the bank." However, other dermatologists argue that there's not enough evidence to support the collagen banking theory and that there's a risk of irreversible damage, including scaring.

Collagen banking is one of the newest beauty trends to hit the market, and it's not as complicated as it sounds. By indulging in non-invasive cosmetic treatments as early in adult life as possible, it's believed that they will restore and replenish your body's natural collagen levels for longer.

But as not all experts agree that this is the best way to youthful skin, you should carefully consider your options before committing to regular treatments.

Is It Really The Right Place for You?

Buying a home can be a tremendous and wonderful part of the human experience. Too many people consider purchasing their home to be one of the happiest times of their life. Whether you or any other person in question is purchasing a home for you yourself to end up living in, or you purchase the home to rent out so that someone else can live there, or you purchase the home so that you can sell it and make a profit down the line, there are a lot of things you have to think through before you ever sign any of the dotted lines. Each of those dotted lines can end up meaning a lot, and thus the decision shouldn't be made lightly or without a great deal of consideration.

When a particular piece of real estate is the right place for you, it can be a truly wonderful experience in a lot of different ways. From the time you first get the place to the time you eventually end up parting with it, the difference between an okay property and a great property is an even larger difference than that between an okay property and a bad one. The differences come in a lot of individual moments and flavors of life.

The Size of the Place

When it comes to a property, size really does matter. For many people, the size of the place where they live is as important as how well it's maintained, how clean or not it is, and other factors in their life such as the type of car they drive or how they style their hair. Whether they own the place or rent it, the size of the place where a person lives is a crucial factor in their overall quality of life. This may seem strange or even shallow to some people, but for others, it's as critical as the type of food they eat or the kind of job they work.

When you're thinking about the kind of place a person might end up living in, the American standard is that most people want to have at least 600 square feet per person. For a lot of people, having between 1,000 and 2,000 square feet apiece is considered livable and enjoyable, possibly so that they can avoid being too close to anyone else. But then, no matter what, you need to consider the type of person who's going to live within the place you get. Even if you intend to live in the place yourself at the beginning, eventually, you're going to want to pay some attention to what the next person is going to want from a size perspective.

The Amount of Fixing to Be Done

There's a certain level of fixing up that virtually any kind of place is going to need. Before you even think about signing on for a place, it's important to go through it carefully and determine how much it's actually going to need. As tempting as it might be to think that a given place is going to need nothing at all, or only a small amount of cosmetic fixing up, this is a misnomer that could end up costing you dearly.

No matter how good a place looks, it's always going to have something wrong with it. When you get this fact of life internalized, it becomes that much easier to mentally deal with the fact that you'll have something to fix and some kind of headache to contend with once it's yours. Working with places, especially where the people are very particular about how they live, is neither an easy matter nor one that's intended for the faint of heart.

Once you've reconciled yourself to the fact that every place is inevitably going to have something wrong with it, you can begin to deal with the next problem, whatever it is. The sets of problems you'll deal with over time may vary based on the place. However, going in with the presumption that there's at least one problem to be dealt with will mean you'll be ready when this problem ends up striking.

The good news here is the more closely you examine the property, the more likely you're going to be to find out what the problem to be dealt with is going to be before it becomes extremely urgent. Like all Los Angeles home buyers, the better you understand the problem when you first go into the situation at hand, the better you're going to be able to deal with the problem once it has fully come up. Knowing what you're getting yourself into will help you make a lot of decisions before you begin signing documents and putting down funds.

The Ultimate Choice

When you buy a home, whether it's for you to live in, to rent out to someone else, or to sell, you have a huge choice to make about whether to get it or not. When you get a property, you become responsible for it no matter what happens, and this responsibility can be crippling if you aren't careful. By taking the time to think through the choice you're about to make, you can often pull a sizable profit from the place and have some good times in the interim.

The choice you make about what to do with the place, which place to buy, and even what area in which to buy will ultimately come down to a large set of choices you're going to have to consider very carefully in advance. Whether the place you end up getting is the first you seriously look at or the thousandth, deciding whether it fits in with your ultimate goals is a vastly important part of the investing process.

How to Avoid Getting Fooled When Buying Diamonds

Do you know how to make the difference between a fake diamond and a real diamond? What about the difference between lab created diamonds and real diamonds? If not, then you might be in trouble of getting scammed when you pick out your engagement or wedding ring for your loved one. To help you avoid getting fooled when you're looking to buy a diamond, consider some of these tips.

1. Make Sure It's Certified

When at a jeweler's, you want to make sure that the diamonds are certified. Those are the ones that have been graded by a trusted institute like the Gemological Institute of America. They give an accurate grade of the diamond which allows the jeweler to know how much they can reasonably price those diamonds.

Those that are uncertified are typically poorly cut or low-quality diamonds. When going to a jeweler, always ensure that they are showing you certified diamonds.

2. Avoid Sham Certificates

Speaking of certificates, it's also important to take a look at the certificate itself. Another way that a jeweler might try to fool you is by showing you certificates with grades given by sham institutes or labs. The labs might be fake or they might be in cahoots with the jeweler and offer a good grade for a share of the profits.

Inspect the certificate and ensure that it comes from a reliable institution or lab like the GIA.

3. Be Mindful of Wholesale Prices

When it comes to pricing diamonds, the actual price is typically left to the jeweler. There is an estimated price of the diamond, of course, but they can choose to sell it for more or less. Some shady jewelers might choose to inflate the price of their diamonds. Then they slash the price and host a wholesale promotion.

Don't go in a jewelry shop and think you will get an extremely expensive diamond at a low price. In reality, you're actually overpaying for a diamond that is likely to be less expensive than the wholesale price. When a sale like this is going on, you should be wary of the price. It usually means the jeweler has something to hide or the diamond, itself, is worth significantly less. Essentially, if it's too good to be true, usually it isn't.

4. Watch Out For Bait and Switch Practices

In some cases, you might have picked out the perfect diamond. The setting has been chosen, and you're just waiting for it to be ready. Suddenly, you receive a call from the jeweler. They inform you that the diamond was no longer available. Instead, they offer to switch out to another diamond that's a bit more expensive.

This is a shady way to make you spend more than you originally planned. You might even end up with a diamond that's worth less than the price. An even bigger issue is the money you have already spent. Refunds typically aren't allowed. Instead, you'll get a store credit which means you have to buy from the jeweler if you ever want to get your money's worth.

5. Know Types of Diamonds

In order not to be a fool at the jeweler, it's important to do a bit of research before you walk into the store. Knowing the type of diamond you want and what it looks like is a great step to staying fool-free. Natural diamonds are white and colorless. When you think of diamonds, you typically think of natural diamonds. Treated diamonds start as natural diamonds, but they're then treated to be made even prettier. They are less expensive. Natural Colored diamonds are those that have color and are rare.

Be Smart! When it comes to shopping for diamonds, you need to be well prepared to stay fool-free.

What To Pack For An Outdoorsy Vacation

If it's been a little while since you last took an outdoorsy vacation, you may need to add a few items to your packing list. Even if you're hiking a new trail or traveling at a different time of year than you did before, you can still optimize your packing and travel smart. Here is a smart selection of the most important items you would want to pack for your outdoorsy vacation:

1. Protect Your Feet

Hiking places stress on your feet as the miles add up, so your choice of footwear can make your day seem to float by, or make you feel like you're about to crash. Hot summer days often end in late afternoon thunderstorms, so you'll want to be ready if it gets muddy when you're out on a trail. Keep your footing with a tread meant to handle slick surfaces. Work boots can double as great hiking boots due to their durability and slip-resistant design.

3. Let Your Gear Match Your Destination

According to the National Park Service, tennis shoes are great for walking in the city but on unpaved roads, rubber soles are your friend. Additional ankle support also helps, making boots your footwear of choice. Don't forget an extra pair of socks. Choose a style that will wick away sweat during long summer hikes, and that will dry quickly after a rainstorm.

3. Stay Dry

While an umbrella or a tarp might keep you dry at your campsite, a raincoat or poncho will feel more practical on the trail. If camping overnight, the National Park Service recommends not just a sturdy tent, but also a repair kit. When hiking it's better to be prepared for the unexpected.

4. Bring Healthy Food and Ample Water

On an outdoorsy vacation, you may engage in more exercise than normal, so hunger and thirst can come as a surprise. However, dehydration is a serious health concern and since some of the symptoms include confusion and fatigue, plan to stay hydrated before you set out on a hike. It is recommended to pack more food and water than you think you will actually need. A missed trail marker could add a few additional hours of hiking on top of what you planned.

5. Take Your Cell Phone or Personal Locator Beacon

Not only can you take some great pictures of your hike, you can keep yourself safer in the event of an accident just by keeping your cell phone charged and working. The built-in GPS will make it easier for rescue services to locate you in the event of a fall, or you can call for help if you get lost. Invest in a carrying case meant for rugged conditions: one that is meant to withstand significant impacts and/or water damage. If you're hiking in a rural zone without cell service, it is recommended a Personal Locator Beacon.

Once you have these essential items, you can fill a bag with other small-but-smart gems, like bug spray, a first aid kit, and sunglasses. Top off your packing list with a nice protective hat to keep excess sun off your face and neck. Now, you're ready to enjoy your vacation!

Aquatic Bathroom Themes: Classic Style Or Design Cliché?

Boats, beaches, fish, and shells – they're all classic bathroom motifs, but they can become cliché or overdone quickly. Still, that doesn't mean that you have to avoid these themes altogether. No, if you want to decorate your bathroom with traditional aquatic elements, the key is to find style-forward, innovative approaches to these classic looks.

Start With Unconventional Colors

Photo: Pinterest

Nautical- or beach-themed bathrooms typically rely on colors like sea foam green, light blue, and coral as the foundation for their overall look, but not only are these colors a bored stereotype, they're also terribly retro. Instead, swap out the pastels for a bolder blue or green accent wall, while keeping the rest of the room white. This styling lets your accents do the talking and makes the room look more modern.

Choose Counter Materials Carefully

Did you know that many building materials naturally contain bits of shell or fossil? It's true – and these materials are readily available. By opting for a luxury countertop material, particularly marble or river rock tile, you can maintain that beachside aesthetic without pushing it too far.

Consider Atypical Accents

A lot of aquatic and nautical bathrooms lean heavily on baskets of shells, anchors, and photos of ships to decorate the space, but these are precisely the sorts of décor elements that are overdone. They can even seem childish, compared to more sophisticated accent pieces. For an upscale approach to a beachside bathroom, consider buying a real fish fossil to display in your bathroom. A fossil isn't just a natural piece of art – it's an investment in your space and one that signals a deeper engagement with your bathroom's theme.

Make Your Mirror Matter

Statement mirrors are all the rage right now and every bathroom needs at least one great mirror. Rather than just installing a standard medicine chest mirror, then, opt for a mirror that's also a piece of art. Subtle, wave-like framing or a large mirror with one that features a mermaid, like those traditionally found on the bow of a ship, are not only functional but they're also unconventional, which is exactly what you need when working within a common theme.

Always Opt For Less

Whether you're working with a popular bathroom theme like the beach or under the sea, or decorating an eclectic living room, a good rule of thumb is to keep things understated. You don't need a shower curtain covered in fish, a shell shaped soap dish, and sea foam walls. No, like Coco Chanel's fashion rule – that before you walk out the door, you should take one thing off – great design demands a little subtlety. Broadening how you think of your theme can help too because selecting more eclectic decorations your space won't feel "matchy-matchy." Those are the themed bathrooms that make stylists cringe.

Cutesy décor and over-coordination makes a home look cheap, but the same themes executed with careful styling can look sophisticated and expensive. Even if you're decorating on a budget, these simple rules can help you turn cliché into classy.

The Wedding Dress – A Concern After The Big Event!

It's over! You can't believe your big day passed away just like that. Months of planning, all the stress and the budgeting – your wedding is over and you're left wondering what to do with your bridal gown after the big event. It's a concern that you never thought of until the whole wedding ordeal is over, but now that it is, you can't help but stare at the dress, lying unused – space-hogging and seems to serve as a constant reminder of how much you spent on it only to wear it once.

Obviously, wedding dresses aren't meant to be worn on daily basis. And while there are much more simple wedding dresses, sometimes even they can't be worn to just any occasion. Does it mean that you're now stuck with a dress you can't get rid of, yet can't wear?

Actually, no. There are plenty of things you can do with your wedding dress. Here are just some ideas you might want to consider.

1. Keep it

If you're not married yet, you might find this idea rather baffling. But believe it or not, those who have worn a wedding dress often admit that parting with their wedding dress is harder than they thought it'd be. You can always preserve your gown as a keepsake for your daughter or daughter-in-law. But obviously, you would need to clean the dress and find out the best way to store your dress without ruining it. A cool, dry, dark place with moderate temperature is ideal.

Preserving your dress also doesn't mean that it has to sit in a box, locked away somewhere in the attic. Take your dress out occasionally, for example when it's your wedding anniversary.

2. Donate it

Yes, you can donate your wedding dress! Many women actually do so in order to raise fund for different causes, support women who can't afford a wedding dress, or just so that it can be used for different purposes.

3. Trash it

Uhm, no. It doesn't mean you have to throw it away. Trashing a gown means that you simply wear it without worrying about what would it look like afterward. And yes, it's a lot of fun! Some people paint on them, some wear it to the beach, and some others had snowball fight in it. Do your thing and have as much fun as possible!

4. Upcycle it

Last but not the least, make something new using your wedding dress. This is obviously not something that can be done by everyone, but if you're blessed with sewing skills, why don't you try it out? White fabric can be used to make almost anything, so get creative!

Home Décor Trends That Will Never Go out of Style

Home décor can be overwhelming. Partly to blame for this is the pace at which trends come and go. It almost seems as though each time you catch on to a trend, it goes out of style before you even know it. The good news is, several solid trends have withstood the test of time. You can use these to form the basis of your home décor while incorporating select passing trends now and then.

Curious about these timeless trends? Here are a few you can get inspired by:

1. Fireplaces

Fireplaces – functional or decorative – never get old. What you should take note of is the door. Fireplaces with gold plated doors are absolutely out of style. Ensure to install a modern mantle or bold paint, to give the place an elegant touch. For an exciting twist, you can have a fireplace in the dining room or even in the bedroom instead of the living room.

2. Neutral Paint

Painting your house is one of the cheapest and quickest ways of giving it a fresh look. While bold colours pop and make a room look vibrant, the trending colours don't stick around for long. Neutral colours like taupe, greys, beige, and off-white tones, on the other hand, tend to remain solid choices over time. In addition to this, they fade into the background allowing you to play around with colour on your furniture, fittings, and rugs.

3. Comfort

Going for comfort is another trend that will never go away. Aesthetics aside, the people living in a home have to feel comfortable. At times comfort also extends to well being. A bed, for example, has not only to look good but also, it has to provide ample back and limb support so that you do not wake up with joint aches and pains. An elegant Ecosa bed base, for example, is one way to ensure you sleep comfortably and get enough restorative sleep each night.

4. Mirrors

Mirrors are a versatile décor item that allow for creativity. For example, you can get them cut in different shapes and dress them up in elegant frames to go with your general décor. You can also get smaller framed mirrors and arrange them in interesting collages to liven up a room. Aside from their aesthetic value, mirrors reflect light brightening up a room. In addition to improving lighting, they make smaller rooms appear larger.

5. Artwork

Art takes its place as a décor staple. The key is to pick out artwork styles that do not feel dated. You can also play around with different frames to modernize the pieces.

6. Plants

Photo by Davide Cantelli on Unsplash

Plants have always been used to clean indoor air and for their aesthetic value. Today, you can have plants that are also functional. Herbs fall under this category. Planting rosemary, sage, lavender and so on not only beautify a house but also, fill it up with tantalizing smells. Having fresh herbs to cook with is also a welcome bonus.

7. Marble Countertops

Photo by Rustic Vegan on Unsplash

From its use in palaces and castles in ancient times, marble has remained a revered countertop material. Marble is durable, luxurious, fire-resistant, and scratch-resistant. This makes marble especially useful in the kitchen. It's also easy to clean, which makes it a good bet for kitchen hygiene.

8. Wooden Floors

Photo by Margo Brodowicz on Unsplash

Wooden floors are synonymous with warmth and elegance. In past decades, wood floors used to be slightly cruder than the neat, easy to maintain planks available today. Today, wood floors are still coveted by homeowners and renters alike. The best part is that there are many different finishes to choose from to complement the style you are going for.

9. Mix and Match

One advantage of these timeless décor tips is that they have withstood the test of time and will remain trendy for a long time to come. This eliminates the need to keep updating your décor, which is both time-consuming and expensive.

The best way to use these decoration ideas is to pick a few and match them up with some modern designs to create something unique for yourself. Allow your personality to come through your décor style, and you will have the home of your dreams.

On-Trend Spa Treatments To Beat Stress Fast

Spa visits in America are on the rise with total visits increasing by five million in just two years. This growth is unsurprising seeing as Americans have been voted the most stressed nation in the world. For the millions of stressed individuals, spa treatments provide a sense of calm, tranquility, and happiness. But which of the latest beauty treatments available at spas offer the best stress-busting benefits?

Photo by Antonika Chanel on Unsplash

Japanese Head Spa

Japanese head spas are all the rage in Japan, but over the last few years they have popped up in certain areas of America, including LA and New York. The treatment focuses solely on the scalp and aims to detox it and promote hair growth. Stress is a common trigger for hair loss, such as the condition telogen effluvium. Multiple studies show that a Japanese head spa treatment can help to prevent such hair loss. As hair loss typically leads individuals to experience even greater stress as they worry about how much they will lose, a Japanese head spa even has the power to prevent this stress from occurring.

A Massage With A Twist

Massages have been a popular stress-busting spa treatment for decades due to studies revealing that weekly chair massages lower stress levels better than simply sitting and relaxing. However, massages in 2019 are being done with gemstones. Gemstone massage tools are used to soothe and heal the body and to eliminate stress and worry.

Gemstones are particularly beneficial for individuals experiencing high levels of stress as stones such as amethyst, celestite, lepidolite, and fluorite bring a sense of calm and help people to find their inner peace. The people at Viva Med Spa choose to use warm basalt river stones in their treatments as they 'unravel tension in the body for a deeply relaxing experience.'

Heated Treatments Are Back

Spa treatments often utilize heat, but it's very much the 'in thing' this year. Heat is used in various ways in spas and treatment choices typically include time in a sauna, a deep heat facial, and a Turkish massage. Heat releases tension in the muscles and also encourage endorphins to flow around the body. As endorphins are nicknamed 'the happy chemicals' they have the power to bring stress levels tumbling down.

Spa treatments are a great way to relax and unwind. With so many people experiencing high levels of stress, it's well worth spending an hour or two utilizing the latest spa treatments to reduce stress levels and improve overall wellness.

Mascara Mistakes – 10 Things You’re Doing Wrong

We all know that at some point, we all had commit some 'mascara mistakes' – applying mascara in a wrong way and ended up ruining our hard-earned eye makeup result. And let's be honest, it's not the best feeling in the world, especially if you're running out of time or you have an important event to attend. It's only normal to feel irritated or even upset because applying mascara is, most of the time, the last step to finishing your eye makeup and you'll have to start over if it smudges or it's looking nothing like you expected.

So now that we have all agreed that applying mascara is a rather difficult, yet necessary task, let's go over some common mascara mistakes and things we all can do to minimize the risk of ruining our mascara.

Not curling your eyelashes before applying mascara

1. Finding the eyelash curlers scary. Eyelash curlers do look scary, especially if you just start learning to put on makeup. There are so many things that could go wrong with it, like ripping your entire eyelashes off. But don't let it intimidate you! The truth is it is very unlikely for that to happen.

2. Curling your eyelashes after applying mascara, however, can actually break your eyelashes or worse, have it yanked out. Plus, if you don't curl your lashes before applying mascara, people can't see the difference – whether you have mascara on or not.

Eyelash curlers 'open' your eyes, and make the entire mascara applying process much easier. If your lashes have a hard time staying 'opened', try heating your eyelash curler using a hair dryer for a few seconds before using it. But again, be careful! You don't want to burn your eyelid and your lashes.

Choosing the wrong mascara

3. Holding on to old tubes too long. Now that you have curled your eyelashes, let's move on to another vital step: choosing the right mascara. Let's be real – what is the first thing you consider before buying a mascara? Is it the price? The brand? Or the color? While there is nothing wrong with getting reasonably-priced mascara, we often hold on to our old tubes just a little bit too long just because we simply have no time to shop for another one, or just because we're on budget! But do you know that using old mascara can actually put your eyes at risk of infection. Ideally, you need to replace your tube once every six months, or right after it gets clumpy.

4. Not considering the size of the wand. Another mistake we often make when it comes to getting new mascara is not considering the size of the wand. Bigger isn't always better. And you don't always have to get black mascara – try experimenting with colored mascara that can compliment your natural hair and skin tone. And if you're using contacts (or your eyes are sensitive), try to find mascara that is specially designed for your needs. They're not crazy expensive – plus they save you from watery eyes.

Not wiping off the excess product on the brush

5. Keeping the mascara excess on the brush. Before applying the mascara on your lashes, wipe excess mascara off on a tissue."Does it even matter?", you may wonder. Yes, yes it does!

6. And while we're talking about mascara brushes, pumping your wand is a huge no-no! The science behind it though, is quite interesting. When you pump your wand, you're actually pushing air into the tube, and the mascara will eventually dry out faster. Instead, it is suggested that you gently twist the wand back and forth or in circular motions. Also, close the tube right away!

Applying it the wrong way

Now it all boils down to how you actually apply the mascara.

7. Applying mascara only on your top lashes is one of the most common mistakes. But the truth is, your bottom lashes are just as important. It is obviously harder to apply, but the difference it makes is definitely worth the practice.

8. Using only one mascara. Instead of using one mascara it's better to use two which serve different purposes. This way you can get a fuller, firmer look.

9. Making your lashes look clumpy and 'heavy'. But another thing you need to remember is how evenly you apply the mascara. Sure, your lashes can look more voluminous and thick, but do you apply the mascara to the inner and outer corner as well? Or do they look thin and frail compared to the middle part of your lashes? This doesn't mean you need to apply multiple layers all over your lashes – because it is going to make your lashes look clumpy and 'heavy'. Instead, it means you need to take breaks between layers, and evenly apply mascara on the corners.

Forgetting what to do after

10. Blinking too fast right after applying. What do you do after you finish applying the mascara? Well, first thing first, you need to refrain from blinking. But be honest – we often forget to stop our eyes from opening right away or blinking too fast right after we finish. This is a fatal mistake that can throw our previous effort to waste.

Once you're done with your day and you're getting ready for bed, take off your mascara using an eye makeup removal! This is such an obvious thing to do, but we don't always do it – maybe because we're too tired, too drunk, or simply because we feel it would go away once we wash our face. But if you don't remove it properly, you're actually damaging your eyelashes and in the long run, your eyes.

The Best-Kept Secrets of Fresh Smelling Homes

Have you ever walked into someone else's home and been pleasantly surprised by how good it smelled? Do you ever wonder why your house smells musty instead of fresh? This is the place to learn the details. A fresh, pleasing smell is the most convincing sign of a clean house. Unpleasant odors or scents, on the other hand, make visitors wonder whether the premises may be dirty or even infectious.

Five Tips for a Better Smelling Home

We all tend to become nose-blind to the scents within our own homes, so it's vital not to assume one's residence smells great. Instead, you should proactively seek to improve the overall freshness of your living spaces. Here are five essential pointers:

1. Eliminate Stinky Culprits

If your home has a distinctly bad smell that appeared suddenly out of nowhere, there should be an identifiable culprit in play. Trash cans, toilets, pantries, attics, crawlspaces, and refrigerators are all typical sources of such problems.

Automatic dishwashers are also a common source of bad odors. If you suspect your dishwasher is to blame, try running it on a cleaning cycle. You can also look into the filter trap and check for any trapped food or debris that needs to be removed.

"If you have gone through all of these points and still have a dishwasher odor problem, it may be time to call in a professional appliance repair specialist," Universal Appliance Repair suggests. "There are a number of other issues that could be causing unpleasant odors, and an experienced technician will be able to assess your appliance to determine the underlying issue."

2. Keep Pets Outside

As much as you may love your furry little friends, dogs, cats, and other pets can stink. Unfortunately, animal reek isn't confined to their bodies. They have a way of transferring their fetor to everything around them — especially the carpet and furniture.

The best practice is to keep pets outside, in a covered porch. If you prefer to share your home with them, try to restrict your animals to certain rooms, and, of course, give them regular baths.

3. Diffuse Essential Oils

Most people rely on candles to make their home smell better, but there's a better alternative. Surprisingly, candles can release harmful toxins and chemicals into the air.

In contrast, essential oils provide a soothing scent that's also 100 percent natural when they are diffused. "When we diffuse oils, the air always feels lighter, and somehow more clean than when we burn candles," says Elena Brower, New York City-based yoga teacher.

"Diffusing essential oils releases thousands of oxygenating molecules and negative ions into the air and your environment." Negative ions have been shown to clean the air of pollen, mold spores, pet dander, bacteria, and the odors caused by these unwanted elements.

Essential oils come in dozens of blends and scents. Find the one or two that are the most pleasant to you, and diffuse them for a few hours each day.

4. Clean Out Air Vents

Air vents get a lot of use over the years. All the air in your home travels through these vents on a daily basis.

And though your home's air filter is supposed to catch most of the dust, dander, and undesirable items that clog your central air system, they aren't perfect. Over time, moisture and debris join the party and stick in the filter.

When air blows through these vents, the system can disperse unwanted smells into your home. Start by inspecting your air vents to see if they need cleaning.

Once you've done that, you can try clipping a car deodorizer onto your vents. That should freshen the air as it blows into your living spaces.

5. Be Wary of Moisture

Moisture is one of the number-one causes of household odors. When humidity rises above 60 percent, your home spaces run the risk of developing mold, mildew, and mustiness.

If you live in a humid climate, try to avoid wall-to-wall carpeting or rugs. They have a tendency to trap moisture — particularly in the bathroom or kitchen.

Don't leave wet clothes in the washing machine for long periods of time, and replace kitchen sponges every few weeks. Anything that can trap moisture will be bad for your air.

Delight All Five Senses

Your home says a lot about you. When you invite guests into your living spaces, they should be more than just visually pleasing.

If you want visitors to feel comfortable and appreciated, a visit to your home should delight all five senses. Keep this in mind as you improve your residence.
